Teen Charged in Vehicle Theft: Operation Regional Mongoose

Police have charged a teen following reports of a stolen vehicle in Armidale this week.

On Wednesday (27 September 2023), officers attached to New England Police District received a report that a Ford station wagon had allegedly been stolen from a home in Armidale.

Following inquiries police located the vehicle travelling on Niagara Street, Armidale, about 11.50pm the same day.

Officers directed the driver to stop the vehicle, however the driver allegedly failed to do so.

The Ford then crashed onto a train track on Miller Street, Armidale, after which the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene.

After a short foot pursuit police arrested a 16-year-old boy who was the taken to Armidale Police Station.

The 16-year-old was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner and steal motor vehicle.

He was refused bail to appear before children's court on Thursday (28 September 2023).

The matter remains before children's court.

Inquiries are continuing under Operation Regional Mongoose.
