Teen charged over fire in Penrith

Police have charged a teenager following an investigation into a fire in Penrith earlier this month.

About 7.50pm on Sunday 2 October 2016, emergency services were called to a scrub fire at a reserve on Hickeys Lane.

Officers from the Rural Fire Service and Fire & Rescue NSW attended, however the blaze had spread to nearby streets.

The fire was extinguished about an hour later; police have received no reports of injury.

Officers from Penrith Local Area Command commenced investigations into the incident, and about 1.15pm on Wednesday 12 October 2016 investigators arrested a 17-year-old boy at Penrith Police Station.

He was charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread, NSW Police say.

The teen was granted conditional bail and will appear in a Children’s Court on Tuesday 1 November 2016.
