Teen in critical condition after shed fire near Nowra

Two teenage boys remain in hospital – one in a critical condition – following a fire on the state's South Coast today.

Just before 5pm (Sunday 16 February 2020), emergency services were called to a house on Greenwell Point Road, Worrigee, about 5km south-west of Nowra, following reports of an explosion in a shed.

A 17-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Shoalhaven Hospital, before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

The second teenager, also aged 17, was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The fire was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service, but the shed was completely destroyed.

Police have been told the pair were tending to a boat inside the shed when the fire occurred.

Officers from South Coast Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
