Teenager charged with attempted robbery of 86-year-old man in Cowra

A teenager has been arrested following the attempted robbery of an 86-year-old man at Cowra earlier this month, NSW Police say.

About 3.45pm (9 December 2016), the elderly man was at his Lee Street unit when he was approached by a teenager inquiring about purchasing his car.

The man returned inside and while repairing a door he was allegedly approached by another young person asking him for money which he declined.

It’s alleged the teen grabbed a hammer from the man, held him around the waist and demanded his wallet. It appears the teen was disturbed and left the house.

The man was not injured.

About 5.30pm yesterday, yesterday, a 16-year-old male attended Cowra Police Station and was arrested. He was charged with assault with intent to rob with an offensive weapon and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today, today.
