Teenager charged with robbery in Toongabbie

Police have charged a teenager with robbery after a woman’s handbag was stolen in Sydney’s west today, NSW Police say.

The woman was waiting for a bus on Portico Parade, Toongabbie, about 1pm today when her bag was taken from her shoulder.

A youth allegedly ran from the scene with a witness giving chase.

Police were told the bag was thrown to another youth over a fence, with a third youth also believed to be involved.

A 17-year-old boy was detained by members of the public at nearby Jimbarra Reserve before police attended and placed him under arrest.

He was taken to Merrylands Police Station where he was charged with robbery. He was granted bail to appear at a children’s court on Wednesday 28 September 2016.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and police ask any person with information to assist them to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
