Teenager injured in ute rollover in Shoalhaven

A teenager has suffered multiple injuries after the utility he was sitting in the rear tray of rolled over in the Shoalhaven last night, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to Yawal, west of Nowra, about 10.40pm after reports the Toyota Hilux carrying two occupants in the cab and two unrestrained teenagers on the rear tray lost control and rolled on Yawal Road.

As a result, the two teens were thrown from the rear tray, with a 16-year-old boy suffering multiple fractures and internal injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Liverpool Hospital where he is in a serious condition. Two other passengers, both aged 17, suffered minor injuries.

The 17-year-old P1 driver was breath-tested at the scene, allegedly returning a positive result. He was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing before being released pending the results and further investigations.

Police have seized the utility for examination.

Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command are now appealing for any person who witnessed or has information about the incident to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
