Teenagers charged over break and enter offences at Tamworth

Two teenagers have been charged with multiple break and enter offences alleged to have occurred in the state's north-east.

About 12am on Saturday (30 January 2021), officers attached to Oxley Police District were patrolling East Tamworth following reports of an aggravated break and enter at a home on Darling Street.

A short time later, police stopped four teenage boys, aged 14 and 17, walking in a southerly direction on Napier Street.

Police spoke with the boys who were subsequently searched, during which a knife and items alleged to be proceeds of crime were seized.

Following a further search of the immediate area, police located mobile phones and three sets of keys.

The boys were arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

One of the boys, aged 14, was charged with two counts of aggravated break enter and steal dwelling in company and have custody of a knife in public place.

The 17-year-old boy was charged with two counts of aggravated break enter and steal dwelling in company – steal less than $60,000.

Police will allege in court that the seized items were allegedly stolen during break and enter offences at homes on Napier Street and Rawson Street earlier that night.

The younger boy appeared at a children's court on Saturday (30 January 2021), where he was granted conditional bail to reappear before the same court today (Monday 1 February 2021).

The older boy was granted conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Tuesday 16 February 2021.

Two boys, aged 14, were released from police custody pending further investigation.
