Teenagers charged over vehicle theft, police pursuit at Coonamble

Two teenagers will appear before court on charges relating to a police pursuit in the state's Orana region.

Between 4am and 7am on Saturday (Saturday 16 January 2021), a white Toyota Landcruiser was stolen from the driveway of a home on Wilga Street, Coonamble.

Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District received reports the ute was being driven within the Gilgandra township in an alleged reckless manner about 3.15am yesterday (Sunday 17 January 2021).

About 4.20am, it is alleged the occupants of the stolen ute left a service station on the Newell Highway without paying for fuel.

Police sighted the vehicle a short time later and a pursuit was initiated through Gilgandra and north along the Castlereagh Highway towards Gulargambone.

The pursuit was terminated at Gulargambone when police lost sight of the vehicle.

Police located the ute abandoned in a vacant block of land a short time later.

Two boys, aged 14 and 16, were arrested in a paddock nearby.

They were taken to Coonamble Police Station and charged with multiple offences.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with take and drive conveyance, police pursuit, dishonestly obtain property by deception and breach of bail.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance and breach of bail.

They were bail refused to appear before a children's court today (Monday 18 January 2021).
