About 6:30pm yesterday (Friday 8 May 2026), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command saw an SUV – which had been reported stolen – travelling southbound on the Princes Highway, Flinders.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued on the Princes Highway through the streets of Kiama Downs, Bombo, Minnamurra and Jamberoo, where road spikes were deployed successfully and three occupants arrested.
The 13-year-old alleged driver was taken to Wollongong Hospital to be checked as a precaution before being taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where they were charged.
The 13-year-old girl has now been charged with five offences,
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Hinder or resist police, and
- Breach of bail.
A 15-year-old girl has been charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and breach of bail, while a 14-year-old girl has been charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
All three were refused bail to appear before a children's court today, Saturday 9 May 2026.
The SUV was reported stolen from Smith Street, Wollongong, on Thursday 7 May 2026
