Teens Charged in Bathurst Break-In and Pursuit

Two teenagers have faced court following a break and enter, car theft and pursuit in the state's central tablelands this week.

About 12.30am yesterday (Thursday 12 February 2026), officers attached to Chifley Police District were called to a home on Emerald Drive, Kelso, with reports of a break and enter.

Police were told two unknown people allegedly carrying a baseball bat had entered the property through a side gate, before entering the home and stealing two sets of car keys, then allegedly driving off in a Toyota SUV parked outside the home.

Officers commenced a search and located the vehicle travelling on Gilmour Street, Kelso, about 12.55am.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through several streets in Kelso, with the vehicle allegedly reaching speeds of up to 70km/hr in a signposted 50km/hr speed zone, before police lost sight of the vehicle.

About 1.50am the same day, police allegedly observed the vehicle travelling at speed on the Great Western Highway, Glanmire. Tyre deflation devices were utilised and the vehicle came to a stop.

The driver and passenger - two boys both aged 17 - ran from police, however; after a short foot pursuit were placed under arrest and taken to Bathurst Police Station.

The driver was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence - people there, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly.

The passenger was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent - knowing people there, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

Both teenagers were refused bail to face a children's court yesterday (Thursday 12 February 2026), where each was formally refused bail to appear before a children's court on Thursday 19 February 2026.
