Temporary closure of Jondaryan Woolshed

Works to preserve the heritage and historic Jondaryan Woolshed are underway.

While repairs have been taking place over the past year, Toowoomba Regional Council Finance and Business Strategy Committee Chair Cr Geoff McDonald said Council would now carry out a detailed building and safety assessment to inform Council of the necessary costs to bring the facility to a safe and operational standard.

"The Jondaryan Woolshed is an iconic part of the Toowoomba Region," Cr McDonald said.

"The venue has been closed since February 2020 and had only just commenced a plan to reopen in stages for private functions.

"We would all love to see the facility back open and running as soon as possible but it's important we carry out this assessment first to get a better understanding of what further work is required.

"Following the assessment, Council and the Board of Jondaryan Woolshed will get together and make a plan on the best way to move forward.

"Unfortunately, this means the facility will remain temporarily closed to the general public.

"We understand how this decision made by Council will have an impact on operations and would like to thank the current Board of the Jondaryan Woolshed for their support and oversight of the centre during a challenging yet opportunistic time.

"The Jondaryan Woolshed Board is made up of a group of industry professionals who are dedicated to the success of the Woolshed. I would personally like to thank this skills-based Board for their commitment to the Jondaryan Woolshed and to the Toowoomba Region.

"In the meantime we will work through the implications of this closure, such as existing bookings for private functions, the respective roles and responsibilities of Council and the Board of the Jondaryan Woolshed and employment arrangements for staff and volunteers.
