Clayton police are investigating the theft of a bronze statue from outside an RSL club in Clayton last Friday.
It is understood unknown offenders stole parts of the statue from the front of the premises on Carinish Road on 24 July about 1.30am.
Police believe the statue, valued at around $18,000, was pulled off using physical force.
Investigators have released an image of the statue, which now only consists of the boots which were left behind.
The offender made off with the rifle and slouch hat.
They have also released an image of a person who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
