Third man charged after Kensington shooting

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce have charged a third man following a fatal shooting in Kensington in March.

The 26-year-old Coburg man has today been charged with one count of murder.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates' Court next Friday, 17 May.

The man is currently in a correctional facility for unrelated matters.

Two men have already been charged in relation to the shooting after they were arrested in Bankstown, NSW on 8 March and subsequently extradited to Victoria.

A 27-year-old Brunswick man was charged with murder, while a 25-year-old Pascoe Vale man was charged with attempted murder.

The men were remanded in custody and will next appear in court on 4 June.

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce are investigating the incident, which occurred during a boxing event at a Racecourse Road venue about 10pm on Friday, 1 March.

Emergency services were called to the venue following reports of shots being fired.

A 30-year-old Craigieburn man died at the scene after being shot, while a 34-year-old from Lalor and 32-year-old from Craigieburn were both taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

On 3 March, police released images of three men they were searching for as part of the ongoing investigation.

Two of these men were arrested in NSW on 8 March, however detectives are continuing to search for Brunswick man Ali El Nasher.

An image of El Nasher is again being released in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information on his current whereabouts.

At this stage it is not known whether El Nasher remains in Victoria, so police are urging people interstate to also keep a look out for him.

Anyone who sights El Nasher is urged not to approach him and to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Investigators are also appealing for El Nasher to contact police directly and arrange to hand himself in.

Investigators are continuing to appeal for anyone who was at the venue on the night and witnessed the shooting to come forward.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of El Nasher or who witnessed the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
