Third man charged after woman detained, assaulted - Unanderra

A third man has been charged after a woman was allegedly detained and assaulted near Wollongong at the weekend.

Shortly after 11pm on Friday (26 June 2020), a 28-year-old woman attended a workshop on Doyle Avenue, Unanderra, to meet with a man that was known to her.

It's alleged the woman was confronted by three men and tied to a chair with ropes, before one of the men assaulted her.

The woman left a short time later and the incident was reported to police the next day. The woman sustained minor injuries to her wrists and did not require hospital treatment.

Following inquiries by officers from Lake Illawarra Police District, two men, aged 28 and 35, were arrested on Saturday 27 June 2020 and charged with take and detain in company for advantage. They remain before the courts.

A third man – aged 33 – was arrested at Wollongong Police Station earlier today (Monday 29 June 2020) and charged with take and detain in company for advantage and armed with intent.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 29 June 2020).
