Third person charged following fires, NSW

A man has been charged today following the arrest and charge of two teenagers last month in relation to an investigation into three fires in the Port Macquarie area, NSW Police say.

The first incident occurred about 2pm on Thursday 25 May 2017, when a small fire caused minor damage to an abandoned building on William Street.

In the second instance, about 10.15pm on Tuesday 8 August 2017, an abandoned duplex was set alight in Munster Street, causing a moderate amount of damage.

During the last incident, about 3.30am on Sunday 13 August 2017, emergency services were called to Gordon Street following reports of a house fire.

Officers from Mid North Coast Local Area Command began investigations into the three fires, which were all deemed to be suspicious and later determined that they were all linked.

On Wednesday 16 August 2017 a 17-year-old boy was arrested, followed by the arrest of a 16-year-old boy the following day (17 August 2017).

Both were charged with aggravated break and enter, and destroy property in company by fire and are due to face Children’s Court on 16 November 2017.

Following investigations, an 18-year-old man was arrested today. He was later charged with aggravated break and enter, and destroy property in company by fire.

He is due to face Port Macquarie Local Court on Wednesday 11 October 2017.
