Third Straight Year of Record Mineral Production - Boost for Jobs and Economy

Minister for PrimaryIndustry and Resources Paul Kirby this morning announced the value ofmineral production in the Northern Territory for the past year was the higheston record at $4.92 billion.

This announcement,made at NT Resources Week during the Minister's Mining the Territory address,signals a 10% increase from last financial year, and the third straight year ofrecord production figures.

The Territory LaborGovernment last year announced mineral production had exceeded the $4 billionmark for the first time, while the year prior recorded what was then a recordproduction value of $3.63 billion. This means there has been a $1.29 billionincrease in the value of Territory mineral production in just over two years.

The Mining theTerritory conference forms part of NT Resources Week, which is taking place atthe Convention Centre today and tomorrow and includes the South East AsiaAustralia Offshore and Onshore Conference and for the first time theEnvironmental Management and Logistics Forum.

NT Resources week iswelcoming over 850 delegates this year, generating close to one million dollarsin visitor expenditure.

With a number ofprojects now well advanced through the approvals process the industry is in ahealthy position to continue to expand this means more jobs for Territorians.

Events such asResource Week are a highlight of the industry calendar and continue to be afundamental part of unlocking private investment, essential for the continuedexpansion of mining in the Northern Territory.

Exploration andmining continues to deliver long term benefits to the Northern Territoryeconomy and continue to drive growth.
