Thomastown and Airport West impounds

State Highway Patrol members had a busy evening after impounding two cars after they were detected speeding in Thomastown and Airport West last night., Victoria Police say

Police observed a Holden SS sedan travelling at 173km/h in a 100km zone on the Calder Freeway, Airport West after it overtook a police car about 7.30pm.

The car was intercepted and the driver, a 26-year-old man from Hillside, had his car impounded for 30 days.

He is expected to be charged on summons for refusing a preliminary oral fluid test and other traffic-related offences.

At the same time, different members from the State Highway Patrol intercepted a new Holden Commodore SV6 after it was caught travelling at 168km/h in a 100km zone on the Metropolitan Ring Road.

The driver, an 18-year-old Thomastown man on a probationary licence, had his car impounded for 30 days.

He is expected to be charged on summons for traffic-related offences and lose his licence for 12 months.
