Three boys charged after pursuit with stolen Mustang at Tamworth

Three teenagers have been charged following a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in Tamworth yesterday.

Shortly after 3.20am (Wednesday 30 June 2021), officers attached to Oxley Police District received reports of a vehicle being driven at excessive speed in the vicinity of Cossa Street, West Tamworth.

Officers from the Oxley Proactive Crime Team commenced patrols of the area and located a Ford Mustang which was driven at speed from police.

Police will allege the vehicle had been stolen from a home on Levien Avenue, Tamworth, sometime between 9pm on Tuesday (29 June 2021) and 3.20am yesterday.

Officers pursued the Mustang throughout several streets in West Tamworth and surrounds, during which it allegedly reached speeds in excess of 100km/h.

The vehicle stopped on Bent Street and all occupants exited and ran from the scene.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested a short time later in Northview Street.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and possess prohibited drug.

The teen appeared before a children's court yesterday where he was granted conditional bail to reappear before the same court on Tuesday 6 July 2021.

Following further inquiries, police arrested two teenage boys, aged 13 and 16, at a home in Tamworth, shortly after 12pm yesterday (30 June 2021).

They were taken to Tamworth Police Station where the younger boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The older boy was charged with police pursuit and take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.

They appeared before a children's court yesterday (Wednesday 30 June 2021), where the 16-year-old boy was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court today (Thursday 1 July 2021).

Te 13-year-old boy was granted conditional bail to reappear before the same court on Tuesday 20 July 2021.
