Three males have been charged after a police officer was assaulted at Bankstown yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 4.30pm yesterday, an off-duty Detective Sergeant attached to Bankstown Local Area Command was travelling on River Road, Revesby, when he saw three males run from a stolen vehicle following a minor motor vehicle crash.
The three males were located nearby in Ann Street and the officer approached them, producing identification and arresting them.
The three males fled on foot. The officer pursued them before being involved in an altercation with a 20-year-old man.
The youths returned and the officer was allegedly kicked in the face, knocking him to the ground.
They allegedly continued to assault the officer rendering him unconscious before all three again fled.
Other police were soon in the area and rendered assistance to their colleague.
Police established a perimeter and with the assistance of POLAIR and a police dog squad unit, arrested the three males a short time later.
The injured officer was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and conveyed to Bankstown Hospital for injuries to his face and body. He has since been released.
The three males aged 13, 16, and 20 were conveyed to Bankstown Police Station where they were charged with a number of offences including;
- Be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner,
- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence,
- Robbery armed with offensive weapon,
- Resist officer in execution of duty,
- Two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm,
- Two counts of affray,
- Resist officer in execution of duty,
- Escape police custody,
- Six counts of enter inclosed land without lawful excuse.
The youths were refused bail to appear at a children’s court today.
The 20-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today.
