Three charged after pursuit, NSW

Police have charged three people following a police pursuit on the Mid North Coast yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just before 2pm (Thursday 4 January 2017), officers attached to Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command tried to stop a yellow Hyundai Excel which was towing a red Holden along the Pacific Highway at Bulahdelah.

The driver allegedly accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

The Hyundai Excel continued to travel north along the Pacific Highway with the tow rope between the vehicles snapping at Possum Brush, causing the red commodore to come to rest.

Officers sighted the Hyundai soon after and a police pursuit was re-initiated.

Officers deployed road spikes at Glenthorne; however, the driver of the Hyundai allegedly swerved to miss the spikes and crashed into bushland.

The alleged driver, a 29-year-old Queensland woman, and her two male passengers, aged 22 and 33, were arrested at the scene and taken to Taree Police Station.

The woman was charged with two counts of police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, shoplifting, and possess prohibited drug.

The 33-year-old man was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and intentionally throw object at vehicle/vessel risk safety.

The 22-year-old man was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and receive property stolen outside NSW.

The trio were refused bail to appear at Taree Local Court today (Friday 5 January 2018).
