Three charged following police pursuit in Lake Illawarra

A man and a woman will face court today, with a second man to face court in February following a police pursuit in Lake Illawarra, NSW Police say.

Just after 7pm yesterday, police attached to Lake Illawarra Local Area Command saw a Mitsubishi Magna, believed to be stolen, driving along Landy Drive, Mt Warrigal.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however it continued along Landy Drive and a pursuit was initiated and ceased a short time later due to excessive speed.

A short time later police located the vehicle after it hit the gutter. Two men, aged 26 and 19, and a 21-year-old woman fled the scene and foot pursuit commenced.

A 19-year-old man was injured during the pursuit and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for compound fracture to his leg. He was taken to Wollongong Hospital where he will undergo surgery.

The 26-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The man was charged with police pursuit, drive whilst suspended, take/drive conveyance without consent, drive manner/speed dangerous and possess prohibited drug.

The woman was charged with be carried in conveyance and outstanding warrants.

Both were refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local court today.

The 19-year-old man was charged with be carried in conveyance and will appear at Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 1 February 2017.
