Three people have been charged after the death of a man during a hunting trip in the state's central north.
About 6am on Friday 1 March 2024, emergency services were called to a property at Come by Chance, about 55km south-east of Walgett, following reports a man had been injured after falling from a ute during a hunting trip.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 47-year-old man for a gunshot wound; however, he died at the scene.
Officers attached to Central North Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the death.
A report was prepared for the information of the Coroner, and all firearms were seized as part of the investigation.
Following an extensive investigation under Strike Force McCudden, today (Friday 13 March 2026), detectives arrested a 45-year-old man at Mount Druitt Police Station where he was charged with manslaughter and use unauthorised firearm.
He was refused bail and appeared before Mount Druitt Local Court today (Friday 13 March 2026), where he was granted conditional bail to appear before Walgett Local Court on Monday 11 May 2026.
A second member of the group – a 42-year-old man – was issued a court attendance notice charged with give firearm to person not authorised by licence/permit.
A third member of the group – a 39-year-old man – was issued a court attendance notice charged with use unauthorised firearm.
The 42 and 39-year-olds are set to appear before Walgett Local Court on Monday 11 May 2026.
