Three charged over armed robbery in Newcastle

Three men have been charged over an alleged armed robbery at Newcastle this morning, NSW Police say.

Just before 8.30am (Sunday 24 December 2017), police will allege two men entered a shop on Young Street, in the Newcastle suburb of Carrington, armed with an axe and metal pole.

The men allegedly threatened a staff member and demanded money before taking money from the register and stealing a customer’s wallet.

They were last seen fleeing in a Mazda 3, driven by a third man.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command were notified and shortly after, attended a home in Waratah.

Police stopped a Mazda 3 and arrested three men, aged 22, 28 and 29.

The trio were taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with robbery whilst armed and steal from person.

They were refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 11 January 2018.
