Three people have been detained after road spikes were deployed to stop a stolen vehicle during a pursuit on the Central Coast overnight, NSW Police say.
About 12.20am today (Sunday 17 December 2017), police attached to Brisbane Water Local Area Command attempted to stop a white Nissan Pulsar sedan with stolen plates, in Young Street at West Gosford.
The pursuit continued to Dog Trap Road at Somersby where police will allege the Nissan reversed into the police vehicle causing minor damage.
The Nissan was spotted a short time later by another police vehicle on the Pacific Highway at Ourimbah.
It was followed to Reliance Drive at Tuggerah, where another pursuit commenced, and the Nissan drove over road spikes that had been deployed by officers from Traffic & Highway Patrol.
The Nissan continued south onto the M 1 Motorway before travelling onto Woy Woy Road Kariong.
Due to the tyre damage, the vehicle eventually stopped on Victoria Road at Woy Woy where the three occupants fled.
All three were detained by police, including officers from Tuggerah Lakes LAC and the Police Transport Command, after a short foot pursuit.
A 19-year-old man suffered an ear injury during the incident and was conveyed to Gosford Hospital where he remains for treatment. It is expected he will be charged with several offences upon his release from hospital.
A 36-year-old woman will be charged with travel in conveyance to appear in Gosford Court at a later date.
A 25-year-old man was charged with police pursuit-not stop (x 2), drive recklessly (x 2), assault police (x 2), resist police (x 2), disqualified driver, use offensive weapon to avoid apprehension, take/drive conveyance without consent, goods in custody, plates calculated to deceive and an outstanding Revocation of Parole Warrant.
He was further charged with several previous offences including drive conveyance without consent (x 2), and drive whilst disqualified (x 2).
The man was refused bail and will appear at Gosford Local Court on Monday 18 December 2017.
