Three men detained after impersonating police, NSW

Police are investigating reports of two separate incidents where three men allegedly impersonated police officers, NSW Police say.

The first incident occurred about 4.50pm on Sunday 14 August 2016, when a man in a white Mitsubishi Magna was involved in a minor traffic incident with another vehicle, driven by an off duty officer on Barrenjoey Road, Ettalong Beach.

Police have been told the man approached the off duty officer and produced what appeared to be a police identification badge.

The off duty officer challenged the man who returned to his vehicle and left.

Following an investigation, about 4.45pm on Saturday (10 September 2016), police attended an Ashfield address and arrested a 52-year-old man.

He was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with impersonate police officer in circumstances of aggravation.

The man was granted conditional bail and will appear at Woy Woy Local Court on Tuesday 27 September 2016.

The second incident occurred about 2.20am today, when two men in a grey Holden Commodore attempted to pull over a vehicle on Hoxton Park Road, Liverpool, using flashing lights.

The driver was suspicious the grey Holden Commodore was displaying P plates and contacted police. Officers from Liverpool Local Area Command were contacted and attended. Police located and stopped a grey Holden Commodore, speaking to two 19-year-old men.

Investigations are continuing. Charges are anticipated.
