Three police assaulted, six arrested following brawl, NSW

Six people were arrested and three police officers assaulted following a brawl at Potts Point overnight, NSW Police say.

About 1.15am today, police from Kings Cross Local Area Command were patrolling Bayswater Road and Kellett Street when they observed a group of men and women swearing and arguing loudly.

As police approached the group, a 19-year-old man allegedly started punching another. Officers went to arrest the man who resisted by striking and kicking the officers several times.

Capsicum spray was used on the man and a 22-year-old woman who allegedly assaulted the officers while they were arresting the man.

As officers were attempting to place the man and woman into a police vehicle, a 21-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man allegedly approached the officers and began to hinder and assault them again.

Two other women, aged 24 and 23, also allegedly hindered and assaulted the officers during the melee.

Further officers attended the scene and arrested all involved and conveyed them to Kings Cross Police Station.

A 19-year-old man was charged with offensive language, resist/hinder police (x3) and assault police (x4).

A 22-year-old woman was charged with resist/hinder police (x2) and assault police (x2).

A 21-year-old woman was charged with offensive behaviour, resist/hinder police (x3) and assault police.

A 25-year-old man was charged with resist/hinder police (x2).

A 24-year-old woman was charged with offensive behaviour and resist/hinder police.

A 23-year-old woman was charged with offensive behaviour, resist/hinder police and assault police.

All were granted strict conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 31 May 2016.

Three police officers suffered minor injuries during the fracas and following precautionary medical checks completed the remainder of their shifts without incident.
