Time For Gupta To Back Liberty

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government is becoming increasingly concerned for the Liberty Bell Bay workforce and the broader George Town community because of the actions of GFG Alliance.

Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Felix Ellis, met with representatives from GFG on Friday to clearly outline the Government's firm expectations of the company.

"Tasmania and Tasmanians have been good to Liberty Bell Bay for many years and that same respect is no longer being shown by GFG," Minister Ellis said.

The Bell Bay Response Team met for the second time on Thursday.

"We continue to receive feedback from local businesses and community representatives about the growing impacts of GFG's actions," Minister Ellis said.

"As we head into Christmas, staff at Liberty are understandably anxious about their future. GFG could provide the reassurance they need today by stepping up and backing the Bell Bay workforce.

"The Government has already reserved its rights under the State loan agreement and we are now carefully working through all available options."
