Time to lock in our gains 19 November

Business Council of Australia

New data from the ABS shows that Australia is on track for a strong comeback with South Australia leading the nation in economic growth, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

"To lock in today's positive numbers, every state leader will need to act to keep Australia competitive with the rest of the world.

"By managing the pandemic and recognising that businesses will need to lead the recovery, South Australia is positioning itself for the future. SA recorded the strongest growth in the federation boosted by agriculture and manufacturing.

"South Australia has made the right decision today to help lock in a good result, reopen its borders and continue driving growth.

"The states leading in today's data are those that protected their people by managing the virus and acted to harness the private sector to drive their recoveries.

"To continue driving Australia's recovery, we need to do everything we can to encourage big companies to make the large investments that will transform the economy and set us up for growth."
