Today, the United States warmly congratulates Timor-Leste on its historic accession as the 11th member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This milestone marks an important step in Timor-Leste's ongoing pursuit of regional integration and cooperation. Since becoming an observer, Timor-Leste has taken meaningful steps to engage with ASEAN institutions and has demonstrated dedication to the organization's vision for peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia.
The United States remains committed to ASEAN centrality and supports Timor-Leste's integration efforts. We look forward to working closely with Timor-Leste as a full ASEAN member and congratulate Dili on this important accomplishment.
