Police from across Toowoomba have thrown their support towards the ‘Not in Our Club’ campaign, coordinated by Toowoomba Together across the month of May for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, Queensland Police say.
The campaign involves sporting clubs and associations across Toowoomba coming together in a united way to make a stand against domestic and family violence.
Superintendent Mark Kelly, District Officer for Darling Downs District said that domestic violence was a significant issue for everyone in Toowoomba, not just for police, however when police were called to attend incidents involving domestic and family violence, it was when emotions were at their highest.
"We know that domestic and family violence has a serious impact on everyone involved, particularly children so it is important that as many people as possible in the community gets behind this very important campaign," Superintendent Kelly said.
Local staff from various sections within Toowoomba Police were very happy to be involved, with officers from General Duties, Watchhouse, Road Policing Unit, Communications Centre and the newly formed Toowoomba Police Bicycle Squad all photographed.
There are a large number of events and activities taking place across Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, including a Hypothetical being conducted at the Armitage Centre, Empire Theatre Toowoomba from 7pm on Tuesday, May 23.
This event, hosted by Toowoomba Together, is specifically designed for the city’s business community, featuring ABC Southern Queensland breakfast show announcer David Ileffe who will facilitate a panel of diverse business and community leaders on the issue and impacts of domestic and family violence, including the personal and organisational costs of this insidious issue.
