Mildura will this weekend play host to yet another national motorsport championship, cementing our region's reputation as a major events destination.

The SKAA Australian Speedway Kart Title will take place at Mildura's Timmis Speedway over two nights this weekend.

Councillor for Events and Tourism Rebecca Crossling said the event attracted the very best speedway kart drivers in the country.

"This is not only a coup for the hard-working members of the Sunraysia Dirt Karters Club, who have brought this event to our region, but for our community more generally due to the economic benefits this event will generate," Cr Crossling said.

"Bringing teams from across the country for two nights of racing means more overnight stays for our region, which directly supports our small businesses across the accommodation, retail and hospitality sectors.

"And being a major motorsport event, it could also generate additional economic benefit for related industries in our region, whether it be for repairs to equipment or karts, or buying spare parts and other items."

Cr Crossling said Council was proud to support the event through the Events Funding and Support Grants program.

"This is yet another great example of how we can partner with local clubs and organisations through our Events Funding and Support Grants program," she said.

"We're fortunate in our region to boast so many professional, hard-working clubs, the majority of which are volunteer based, which attract and run these major events.

"It's gratifying from my perspective that we're able to play a small role in supporting these groups through our grants program."

The SKAA Australian Speedway Kart Title will be held at Timmis Speedway this Saturday and Sunday, with racing starting at 6pm each night.
