Tourism growth good for Tasmania

People all over Tasmania are benefiting from Tasmania’s growing visitor economy and the Liberal Government will continue to deliver on our plan to not only increase the number of visitors, but for them to stay longer, see more of our state and spend more while are here.

With a record $2.3 billion spent by visitors in the last year, tourism remains a key driver of the Tasmanian economy. It’s creating jobs in every corner of the state.

The Government is committed to supporting sustainable tourism that showcases the Tasmanian way of life and what makes our State special.

The Mures Upper Deck, is an iconic Tasmanian business which is currently in the process of recruiting an additional 50 staff across their business for the busy summer period.

Owner Will Mure says that in over 30 years of Mures being located on the docks at Hobart they’ve never had more confidence in the future. They’ve seen continual growth in their business both over summer but also the traditionally quieter winter months.

That’s because more people are visiting Tasmania, including over winter, and they’re spending more. Last year visitors spent around $140 million more in Tasmania than in the previous year.

Tasmania’s tourism industry is the best in the country, and we will not hesitate to strongly support it because it support businesses and jobs right across the state.
