Townsville CBD's Street Art Trail extends with new artwork

A brand new mural created by art collective ALL HOURS will bring a fresh splash of colour to Ogden St in Townsville's CBD.

The public work of art, which will be on display at the Townsville City Bus Hub, has been commissioned by Townsville City Council to add to the city's Street Art Trail.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson, Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney, said the Street Art Trail was a huge asset to the city, delighting both visitors and residents.

"We have works across our buildings by artists from all around the world, which is a brilliant addition to our vibrant city centre," Cr Greaney said.

"ALL HOURS is a fantastic art collaboration that emerged from RUN Collective, whose works already make up part of the Street Art Trail.

"The collective will weave their styles together to create a collage that walks the line between realism and abstract art. I'm sure this new mural will be a great addition to our city's collection of murals."

Cr Greaney said Council was committed to giving local artists opportunities to showcase their talents on home soil.

"We want artists who call Townsville home to have the chance to create and show their work across our city," she said.

"Our street art features a mix of local, national and international artists, and it just goes to show that artists who practice in Townsville can not only be exceptional in their hometowns, but also stand strong among some of the world's best."

Cr Greaney said the local Street Artist Call Out was still open for artists wanting to register their details for further opportunities to create a mural for the Townsville CBD.

"We're on the hunt for a diverse range of local street artists to work on a number of new street art sites," she said.

"If you apply you'll have your details recorded in our Street Art Registry, which is used by Council and external organisations that want to commission street artists or muralists. These are paid opportunities for local artists of diverse cultural backgrounds to make their mark on the city."

ALL HOURS' mural is expected to be complete at the end of next week. Council's Street Art Trail already features 25 commissioned street art works.
