Townsville's Backyard BBQ Battle: High Steaks

Grill your way to glory by signing up for the Backyard BBQ Battle at Anderson Gardens' Our Townsville next Sunday.

The sizzling head-to-head cook-off pits everyday barbecue lovers against each other in a chance to show off their skills in front of a live crowd. All meats, rubs and barbecue equipment is supplied.

The judging panel will score each meaty morsel based on taste, presentation, creativity and crowd appeal.

4wd Central BBQ Battle team member Dan Wilschefski said registrations were essential for the two Backyard BBQ Battles next Sunday.

"As a part of these sessions, you will get to learn the art of cooking the perfect steak from the Pitmasters before you submit your version to the judges for scoring. The winner of each session will go home with a brand new BBQ," Mr Wilschefski said.

"In addition to the two Backyard BBQ Battles, North Queensland's biggest offset smoker, which we call Mabel, will be in attendance and cooking demonstrations from Pitmasters Paul, Dennis and Justin will be happening throughout the day alongside MasterChef's Rhiannon Anderson."

Townsville Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the Backyard BBQ Battle was just one tasty element of a massive day in store at Anderson Gardens.

"Our Townsville is a highlight on the Townsville events calendar. This year's event includes live cooking demonstrations, the return of DockDogs, live entertainment from Townsville's many cultural groups, and so much more," Cr Greaney said.

"I'm personally looking forward to seeing the pets dressed up for the Pet Mardi Gras and the performances on the Global Rhythms Stage. Our Townsville is not to be missed, so grab your friends and family and head down for a great day celebrating the best of our city."
