Trade and migration delegation visits Townsville

Townsville is being showcased to potential investors through a trade and migration delegation that is visiting the city this week.

The delegation, coordinated through Business and Skilled Migration Queensland (BSMQ) and Townsville City Council, is spending three days exploring investment opportunities throughout the region.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the delegation provides an opportunity to demonstrate investment opportunities to investors looking to expand into North Queensland.

“There is no better time to invest in Townsville and North Queensland and having this delegation in our city gives us a chance to promote our region to investors looking to expand and grow their businesses into new markets,” Cr Hill said.

“We’re already seeing growth in spaces such as defence industries, green hydrogen production and export, and education and training and interest in projects such as the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct and now is the time to keep the momentum going.

“With the direction of Council’s new corporate plan and our plan for strong economic growth, along with an unparalleled lifestyle, we have all of the groundwork laid for investment in the region and this delegation will allow us to demonstrate it.”

The investors invited to the city were selected based on how they can benefit the region through creating and sustaining employment opportunities, industry development and growth, global connections, and access to supply chains, and encouraging innovation.

Cr Hill said the timing of the delegation is perfect following the national showcasing of Townsville while hosting round one of the State of Origin.

“Over the past few weeks, we’ve really been able to put Townsville on a pedestal and show what we can achieve as a city when given the opportunity,” she said.

“As a region, we have worked hard on ensuring that we have the foundations in place for the city’s growth in future-forward industries and to attract people to live, work and study here.

“With all the projects happening across the city through Council, the Port of Townsville, Sun Metals, the Defence Force and more, this is the perfect time to attract job creating and economy growing investment.”
