Traffic crash at Mornington Island, QLD

A 26-year-old man was flown to Townsville Hospital with serious facial injuries following a single vehicle rollover at Mornington Island last night, Queensland Police say.

Preliminary investigations indicate police attempted to intercept a vehicle travelling along Cemetery Road around 7.35pm with the driver allegedly failing to stop.

The driver, a 27-year-old man lost control of the vehicle a short time later on Cemetery Road.

Four men and three women were in the Toyota 4WD when it crashed with police rendering first aid to the injured, which included a 35-year-old man, a 36-year-old man and 32-year-old woman – all of who sustained minor injuries.

The most seriously injured, a 26-year-old man remains in a serious condition in Townsville Hospital.

Police investigations are continuing.
