Traffic incident charges, Mt Coot-tha

Police have charged a man following an incident at Mount Coot-tha this morning during which a police vehicle was damaged and an alleged stolen car was crashed, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged at about 4.20am, police conducting patrols on Scenic Drive observed a stolen vehicle parked in the area. Police approached the vehicle and as they attempted to speak to the driver of the vehicle he is alleged to have driven off, hitting the police car.

The man then allegedly drove down Scenic Drive before crashing the car at the intersection with Mt Coot-tha Road. Police arrived a short time later and the man attempted to flee the scene.

He was located by a dog squad officer a short distance away and was taken into custody.

The car, a 2004 Audi A6 was allegedly stolen from an Ellen Grove address.

A 30-year-old Inala man was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage of police property, dangerous operation of a vehicle and obstruct police.

He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
