This week I will travel to Aotearoa-New Zealand to advance our trade and investment relationship with one of our oldest, and most important partners.
Australia and New Zealand share a uniquely close relationship, with one of the world's most successful trade agreements at its core.
After more than four decades of our Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement, our economies are among the most integrated in the world, with clear benefits for our businesses and people.
While in New Zealand, I will meet with New Zealand's Minister for Trade and Investment, the Hon Todd McClay for our annual Trade Ministers' Meeting. We will discuss our trade and economic priorities, including our shared commitment to the rules-based global trading system.
In advance of our meeting, I look forward to meeting with business leaders at the Australia-New Zealand Leadership Forum, to hear about their experience doing business across the Tasman, and to look at how we can strengthen our operating environment.
I will also meet with New Zealand's Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, the Hon Louise Upston, as well as local tourism operators, to discuss the importance and opportunities for our respective tourism industries.
As two countries with a love of travel, there is a natural connection between us and our friends across the ditch. Tourism is a vital industry for both countries, driving significant economic activity as well as supporting thousands of jobs and businesses.
