TRC Backs 2026 Toowoomba Airport Running Festival

Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) this week (October 23, 2025) endorsed a $40,000 sponsorship to help organisers stage the re-named May 3, 2026 Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Running Festival.

Council approved the sponsorship at its October Ordinary Meeting following an application from event organisers, Gold Coast Events Management Ltd (Events Management Queensland, EMQ).

The sponsorship confirms Council as the naming rights sponsor for the Visit Toowoomba Region 10km event to be staged on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

TRC Community Development, Facilities and Tourism portfolio spokesperson Cr James O'Shea said Council was encouraged by the results of the 2025 Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon in May, which attracted more than 2800 participants and delivered an economic return of more than $1.3 million to regional businesses.

Cr O'Shea said organisers were forecasting that the 2026 Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Running Festival had the potential to attract more than 3400 competitors, plus more than 4000 accompanying visitors and return $1.6 million to the Region's economy, based on growth forecasts.

Background details:

• Half of the 2025 event's competitors were from outside the Toowoomba Region with almost 3400 accompanying spectators.

• The 2025 event resulted in more than 5800 direct visitor nights in the Toowoomba Region, based on EMQ's Event Outcome Report.

• EMQ's Event Outcome Report found entries in the half marathon increased by more than 41% between the inaugural 2024 event and 2025, with a 29% increase in entries in the same period for the Visit Toowoomba Region 10km.

Gold Coast Events Management Ltd are the organisers behind the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon, Pan Pacific Masters Games and the Gold Coast T100 Triathlon, among other events.

More event details will be released early next year.
