Treasurer admits he has no plan to pay off debt

Tasmanian Labor
  • Treasurer has no idea how to get Tasmania out of debt
  • Tasmanians deserve to know how Treasurer plans to pay off the credit card
  • 'Monitor and Make Decisions'- not good enough
  • Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said today that the Liberals are plunging Tasmania into $1.1 billion in debt - with no plan to pay it off.

Mr Bacon said "Tasmanians deserve to know how and when the Treasurer will be paying off his budget debt on the state's credit card.

"In Budget Estimates today, the Government's plan to pay off debt was laid bare - to monitor and make decisions.

"It's clear after breaking his promise never to take the state into net debt, the Treasurer has no idea how to get himself out of his own mess.

"Yesterday the Premier was caught completely in the dark about the $100 million interest payments on this debt.

"Tasmanians deserve better than this incompetent, reckless economic management."

    Scott Bacon MP

    Shadow Treasurer
