Truck brings down power lines

Melbourne Highway Patrol is investigating after a truck brought down tram lines in North Fitzroy last night (3 June), Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told a semi-trailer carrying a large excavator allegedly ripped down several tram power lines at the intersection of Nicholson Street and Alexandra Parade at 7.50pm.

Further reports of damage have been received for Johnston Street and Wellington Street, Fitzroy.

The truck was intercepted by police and the driver, a 50-year-old man from The Basin, is assisting police with their enquiries.

Traffic diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the areas.
