Trucking industry congratulates Michael McCormack

The trucking industry has welcomed today's news that Michael McCormack will continue in his role as Leader of The Nationals and, therefore, Deputy Prime Minister.

The ATA represents the 50,000 businesses and 200,000 people in the Australian trucking industry.

"Michael McCormack is a well-known advocate for small business, as well as regional and remote Australia. In his continued role as Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of The Nationals, I am certain he will continue to support the hardworking men and women in the road transport industry," ATA Chair Geoff Crouch said.

"Michael McCormack understands the essential role trucking plays to the economy and day-to-day life of Australia. He knows that without trucks and truck drivers, Australia stops," he said.

Mr Crouch said that Deputy Prime Minister McCormack had made important contributions to increasing road safety for everyone who uses Australia's regional roads and highways.

"Michael McCormack shares the ATA's vision of zero fatalities and serious injuries on our roads, having delivered $400,000 of Government funding to assist in the redevelopment of our road safety initiative, the Volvo ATA Safety Truck, and much-needed funding for government heavy vehicle and road safety measures," Mr Crouch said.
