Two teenage boys have been charged following a pursuit from Erskineville to Mascot this morning.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attempted to stop a reported stolen car on Erskineville Road, Erskineville, about 12.35am (Sunday 29 June 2025).
Checks revealed the car has been reported stolen from Mascot between Friday (27 June 2025), and yesterday (Saturday 28 June 2025).
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated before the hatchback crashed into a pole on Botany Road, Mascot.
Six boys – five aged 14 and one aged 15 – allegedly ran from the vehicle after the crash, before they were located in the vicinity and arrested with assistance from PolAir and officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command.
The alleged driver – a 14-year-old boy – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Sydney Children's Hospital in a stable condition.
The passengers were taken to the same hospital as a precaution. Four of the boys remain in hospital under police guard.
Police established a crime scene with officers attached to Strike Force Sweetenham commencing an investigation into the incident.
A balaclava, gloves and mobile phones were seized when the car was searched. All have been taken for further examination.
Following their release from hospital, two 14-year-old boys were taken to Mascot Police Station, where they were charged with one count of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
They were both granted conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Monday 4 August 2025.
