Two charged after Charlestown oval fight, NSW

Two men are facing court later this month after a fight at an oval in Charlestown this afternoon, NSW Police say.

Around 1.40pm today, officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District responded to reports about people fighting on Ferris Oval.

Initial reports suggested a number of the group were using makeshift weapons

When police arrived, the group dispersed and left the area.

After reviewing mobile phone footage of the brawl, police arrested two men, aged 19 and 30.

Both were charged with affray and granted conditional bail.

The 30-year-old man is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on 19 July 2018.

The 19-year-old man will appear at Belmont Local Court on 25 July 2018.

Inquiries are continuing to identify and locate other parties involved in the fight.
