Two charged after over $1 million worth of cannabis found in Leura

Police have charged two men after $1.15 million worth of cannabis was seized during a raid in Leura yesterday.

North West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad – Penrith have been investigating the enhanced cultivation of prohibited plants in the north-west region.

Following investigations, yesterday at 12.15pm, officers attended a home on St Georges Road, Leura, and spoke to 39-year-old man at the front door.

The home was searched with police locating an alleged hydroponic cannabis setup. Following further searches officer located another 39-year-old man.

Both men were arrested and taken to Katoomba Police Station.

A crime scene was established and 230 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of $1.15m, and other hydroponic growing equipment was seized, and will undergo forensic examination.

The two men were charged with large commercial enhanced cultivation of prohibited plant and use/consume electricity without authority.

They were refused bail and appeared at Penrith Local Court today, where they were refused to appear at Penrith Local Court on 9 September 2015.

Officers are continuing to investigate the cultivation of prohibited plants in the north-west region.
