Two charged after robbery in Redfern

Police have charged a man and a woman after a robbery in Redfern last night, NSW Police say.

Just after 5.30pm yesterday, a woman was walking along Baptist Street, when followed by a man and a woman.

It will be alleged the woman following pushed the woman walking and then grabbed a purse out of the woman’s hand before the couple ran off.

Members of the public came to the woman’s aid and gave chase.

The man was confronted and he threw the purse at a member of the public.

Officers from Redfern Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Police located a man and woman in a building nearby in Morehead Street.

The 31-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Redfern Police Station where they were both charged with robbery in company.

The woman was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 30 January 2017.
