Two charged after smuggling contraband into Goulburn correctional facility, NSW

A man has been charged after allegedly climbing a fence to a correctional facility while concealing contraband in the states Southern Tablelands, NSW Police say.

Police will allege in court about 11.45pm on Saturday 10 February 2018, a white Toyota Camry was seen to park along Cemetery Road, Goulburn, before a man exited the vehicle and climbed the fence to facility and placing two bags in garbage bins.

Officers attempted to speak to the man before he attempted to flee the scene. A short foot pursuit was initiated before the man, who was carrying a third bag, was arrested.

During a search of the 32-year-old man, and the three bags, police allegedly located 30 packets of tobacco and papers, three mobile phones, mobile phone chargers, two balloons containing white powder, cannabis, steroids, sedatives and several other items.

A 34-year-old woman was also arrested at the vehicle located on Cemetery Road.

Both were taken to Goulburn Police Station and charged with enter building/land with intent, unlawfully enter or attempt to enter place of detention, unlawfully bring etc anything into place of detention, bring prohibited drug/plant into place of detention, possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited plant (small quantity).

He was refused bail and appeared in Goulburn Local Court today (Sunday 11 February 2018) and is due to reappear at Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 14 February 2018.

She was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 7 March 2018.
