Two charged during Illawarra drug operation, NSW

Two men have been charged with drug supply offences following a Police Transport Command operation on the Illawarra rail line today, NSW Police say.

Police Transport Command officers from Wollongong and the Dog Unit conducted the operation which targeted illicit drugs on the rail network between Kiama and Dapto railway stations.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at Shellharbour Junction railway station after officers allegedly located cannabis and 13 x MDMA (‘ecstasy’) tablets in his possession.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with possess prohibited drug (x2) and supply prohibited drug.

A 19-year-old man was searched and arrested at Unanderra after he allegedly dropped a clear resealable plastic bag containing 5 x MDMA (‘ecstasy’) tablets in the carriage he was travelling in.

He was also taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with supply prohibited drug.

Both men were granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 13 December 2016.

Officers also issued 15 railway infringement notices and issued two move-on directions during the operation.
