Two Charged Following Lake Illawarra Pursuit

Two people will appear in court today charged after a pursuit in the state's south.

About 7.30am yesterday (Tuesday 4 November 2025), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were patrolling the Blackbutt area, when they detected a Toyota Camry allegedly with stolen number plates on Wattle Road.

When the Toyota failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated however, it was terminated after police lost sight of the vehicle.

Just after 9:00am, officers attached to Southern Region Enforcement Squad (RES) detected a Range Rover SUV – reportedly stolen from the Shell Cove area last month - on Greene St, Warrawong.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated before being terminated a short time due to safety concerns.

A short time later the Range Rover was sighted, stopped in traffic on Burelli Street, Wollongong and officers attempted to remove the occupants. A male passenger in the vehicle, was tasered; however, police will allege the driver, a woman, then allegedly sped off, ramming a nearby police vehicle.

Following inquiries, police later located the SUV abandoned on Cliff Road, Wollongong.

A perimeter was established and extra resources from Dog Squad were called to commence a search of the surrounding area.

With the assistance of the dog unit, a 38-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were arrested nearby and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

The man was transferred to hospital for treatment before later being charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, not give particulars to other driver, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, Use motor vehicle displaying misleading number-plate and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

He was also charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company – steal for unrelated matters and an outstanding warrant for break and enter and property offences was also executed.

The woman was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.

They were both refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 3 today (Wednesday 5 November 2025).
