Two charged following robberies and police pursuit in Newcastle

A man and a teen have been charged with several robberies following a pursuit in Newcastle yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 5.20pm today, police from Newcastle City Local Area Command were responding to an alleged break-in at Maryland when they sighted a black Suzuki sedan on Minmi Road, reportedly seen leaving the break-in.

A pursuit was commenced when the stolen vehicle failed to stop for police.

A short time later the Suzuki crashed into another vehicle on Newcastle Road at Jesmond.

Two males in the car ran from the scene but were arrested after a short foot pursuit and taken to Waratah Police Station.

Further inquiries established they were allegedly involved in two other attempted robbery incidents at Kotara and Jesmond that day, along with a stealing and intimidation incident at Maryland and a robbery incident at Gosford in August.

The 18-year-old man was charged with attempted robbery (x2), steal from dwelling, intimidation, police pursuit – not stop (‘Skye’s law’), drive conveyance without consent of owner and drive while disqualified (until 2023).

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.

The 17-year-old teen was charged with enter land with intent to steal, robbery in company, unlicensed driving, attempted robbery (x2), steal from dwelling, intimidation, be carried in conveyance and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court tomorrow.
